ARTIST'S BIO

Artist Bio

D. K.  Fagan was born to British parents in California, where she grew up.  Since early childhood, (the sixties), Fagan loved bright colors, and light; the whole paisley, psychedelic, Yellow Submarine culture. This found her with a paintbrush in hand early on. Art became a natural expression of her surroundings. and still is a rich mosaic in her life.

Fagan studied art on and off for many years, formal training, as well as assisting some of her artistic mentors, (their contribution to her creative growth, she gratefully acknowledges). She has shown her pieces in various galleries, art show/festivals, and has pieces in private collections internationally. Fagan was the manager and artist in residence at The Painted Couch Gallery, that was located in the art district of downtown Las Vegas. She was also a featured artist in Jim Faraone's book- Tips From The Experts.  Fagan is also a writer, with a children's book and a mystery series in the works.  She now lives in the Southwest, where she works out of her home studio, and lives with her husband, son, an odd eyed cat named Skybluepink, a German Shepherd named Karma, and two Collies- Mojo and Elvis.

Artist's Statement

I call myself a mix media artist simply because I express creativity in a variety of mediums including oils, acrylic, pastels, watercolor, pencil, collage, clay, plaster, metal, plastics, textiles, and wood, sometimes all at the same time! I'll mix anything with my paint to get an effect. In addition to canvas and murals, I'll make art out of anything......televisions, refrigerators, doors, windows, guitars, furniture, wheelchairs, lamps, treadmills, and one of my favorites- mannequins. Basically, anything that doesn't move....oh wait, I painted a dog once! I've been playing guitar since I was seven, and I've collected quite a few (guitars) over the years, so music and guitars appear often in my work. I want my art to bring a smile to your face, and make you forget everyday annoyances- even if it's just for a minute. Stuff like forgetting to take your Prozac with your coffee this morning, or maybe that jerk who just cut you off on the freeway. Among the artists who have influenced my work are, Peter Max, Niki De Saint-Phalle, Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and Piero Fornasetti. Other influences are my surroundings, the bright vibrant colors of the the psychedelic sixties, books, songs, pop culture, pop art as well as the classical art of the masters.
